“Chicha Morada”, my favorite beverage, it has simple ingredients, health benefits, it is easy to prepare and it is really good. Hope that is enough to encourage you to try it. this drink is prepared in almost every single restaurant in Peru.
What makes this drink special?
it has natural aromas from fruits and spices like cinnamon, cloves, and pineapple.
it is made out of Purple Peruvian Corn (a.k.a “Maiz Morado), it also has the perfect balance between sweet and acid.
Really Refreshing Beverage has diuretic properties.
It is an alcoholic beverage?
Not really, there is an alcoholic version of this drink that is called “Chicha Sour” but Chicha Morada is a non-alcoholic, diuretic, refreshing and delicious beverage.
Leaving your country for some years can be tough especially if you love the food of your country, My first years in the USA, I was dying to drink Chicha Morada, happily after looking for it all over the internet, I found that “Maiz Morado” is sold dried on Amazon and other online stores.
As soon as I found out about it, I bought some and made Chicha Morada, once I had it on my table tears start coming out of my eyes. The flavor was almost the same, that acid-sweet beverage that I loved was again on my hands.
I prepared it for so many Pot lucks in the USA, I’ve seen foreigners enjoy it as much as I do, asking what was it made of, why was it purple or where did I get it from.
For me is a special drink, I used to prepared often(almost every other day) and it is definitely something that you need to try.

The color and some flavor come from this corn (Maiz Morado) that can be found in Peru. Some of the most important health benefits of Chicha Morada are that it reduces cholesterol, blood pressure and helps clean the arteries.
Go for organic apples and pineapples in this recipe, since in that way skins could be used. That will boost the flavors of this beverage.
This recipe is really easy to follow, there is no “right way” to make it. you could add more Ceylon cinnamon or more cloves, what you need to keep in mind is that there should be a balance between acid and sweet.
Chicha Morada a delicious beverage that you have to try.
Make it for your next pot luck, no one will spect it!
