“Jalea Mixta”
Today I am sharing my recipe of “Jalea Mixta” or Chicharron de Mariscos is a delicious seafood snack dish that you will love!
Peru is a country blessed with a lot of natural resources, it has a beautiful coast, with a wide variety of species. Big “Fish Markets” are scattered around the coast, there you can find quality and fresh products every single day. that is why we got one of the best Ceviches in Latin America.
I grew up in Lima (the capital of Peru), although it is located in the coast of Peru I was not a seafood fan (I know, I know, who doesn’t like seafood right?), you have access to fresh fish and seafood, most seafood restaurants serve this dish in an “enormous” plate full of seafood, fried yuccas, and sauces. my mom askes this dish every time she goes to this kid of restaurants because she knows she can share it with everyone on the table.
What are the ingredients for a Jalea Mixta?
Jalea Mixta is just a mixture of fish and Seafood served with some Sarsa Criolla, fried Yucca, and Tartar Sauce. This dish might sound simple but I am sure that will drive you crazy.
What makes this recipe different from others?
Honestly, the ingredients for a “Jalea Mixta” are simple, I like to “play” with the sides just to make it special, “Ajà Mayo” is one of my favorites sides for the Jalea Mixta.

- Serve The Jalea Mixta with some Sarza Criolla, Yucca, Tartar sauce and Ajà Mayo on top.
Notes
- Use your favorite kind of fish, it has to be cut into bite pieces otherwise it won't cook properly.
- You can use any kind of seafood you like.Â
- Pisco is a type of Peruvian "Aguardiente", it has a Qualified Designation of Origin
- Always Salt your food after they come out of the frier!
I love this dish, it is so simple and yet you can always add little things to make it even better.
The beer batter adds some flavor and texture that I love
Put some effort and this dish will come out nicely, there is a time to rush and there is a time to wait, just make sure you cook your seafood/fish properly.
Jalea Mixta is a simple dish that I know you will enjoy!
